My Amazon Account Got Suspended: What Should I Do on Day One?
You logged in to Seller Central and saw that your account was suspended, or an email from Amazon says your selling privileges have been removed. Panic is a natural first reaction, but the steps you take on the first day largely shape the rest of the process. In this article, we summarize what a seller facing a suspension should do, calmly and in order.
1. Read the notification from start to finish
Amazon shares its decision both by email and in the Account Health and notifications area of Seller Central. You need to clarify three things here:
- Which policy or performance metric is cited as the reason?
- Does the decision cover the whole account, or only specific products (ASINs)?
- What does Amazon ask from you? (Plan of Action, invoices, authorization documents, identity verification, etc.)
Save the full text of the notification and a screenshot. Misunderstanding the reason leads you to write an appeal about the wrong issue.
2. Identify the type of suspension
Not every suspension is the same. In some cases only the related products are taken down; in others the whole account is closed. The approach and the documents requested change accordingly. The most common types are: product authenticity issues (3 ASIN / Inauthentic Item), intellectual property violations, order defect rate, account health scoring, related accounts, and prohibited or restricted products. For short descriptions of each type, see our Suspend services page.
3. Do not do these things
- Do not open a new account. An unauthorized second account creates a related-accounts risk and can make reinstating the existing account harder.
- Do not send a hasty, emotional appeal. Accusatory language such as "Amazon is being unfair" does not help the outcome.
- Do not send repeated appeals without a response. A few unprepared attempts usually produce a worse result than a single well-prepared appeal.
- Do not submit fake or altered documents. Documents that cannot be verified can lead to the permanent closure of the account.
- Do not pressure customers. Pressuring buyers about reviews or ratings, or offering something in return, is a separate policy violation.
4. Start collecting documents
The documents you need depend on the type of issue, but the general list is as follows:
- Supplier invoices (product name, quantity and supplier details must be legible)
- Brand authorization letters or license documents
- Product images, label and packaging photos
- Shipping and tracking records for the orders concerned
- Customer correspondence and return records
Documents must be dated, legible and consistent with each other. Check carefully which type of document the notification asks for; documents outside what was requested may not help in the review.
5. Identify the root cause honestly
At the center of appeals there is usually one question: what happened and why did it happen? The source of the problem may be a supplier, a process error or missing information. You need to review your own workflow and be able to state the cause clearly. This step is the first section of the Plan of Action, which forms the foundation of your appeal. We explain in detail how to prepare it in our article How to write an Amazon Plan of Action?
6. Check open orders, inventory and balance
Depending on the account status, pending orders, your inventory in Amazon's warehouses (FBA) and your payment balance may be affected; payments may be paused for a while. Note the current status and follow the conditions stated in the notification or in Amazon's help pages.
7. Submit a well-prepared appeal
An appeal that clearly explains the root cause, the corrections you made and the preventive steps, together with supporting documents, makes the review easier. Still, every case is different and nobody can guarantee the outcome; what matters is presenting an honest, consistent and complete file.
