Why Do Amazon Accounts Get Suspended? Reading Your Notice
The most reliable source for why your account was suspended is the notification Amazon sent you. The wording can be general, though. This article explains what common phrases may point to and what the first step is in each case.
Find the notification first
Check Performance > Account Health in Seller Central and your email inbox. Save the full text with its date. Note which policy name appears, which ASINs or order numbers are listed, and whether there is a deadline.
Common cause groups
1. Performance metrics
Order defect rate, late shipment rate or cancellation rate falling outside thresholds belong here. See What Is Amazon Account Health? How to Monitor It.
2. Authenticity and product safety complaints
If the notice mentions inauthentic items or similar wording, Amazon may ask for invoices. We cover what makes an invoice acceptable in Amazon invoice requirements.
3. Intellectual property complaints
Rights owners may have filed a complaint about your listing. An authorization letter can then become relevant: What is a Letter of Authorization (LOA)?
4. Related accounts
If Amazon finds shared attributes with another account, it may treat the accounts as related: What is a related accounts suspension?
5. Identity and document verification
If identity, address or bank verification cannot be completed, the account may be restricted. Often a missing or unreadable document is at the center of the problem.
6. Policy violations
Drop shipping, restricted or prohibited products and review manipulation form another group.
Why identifying the cause matters
Amazon expects a different response for each cause group. Answering an invoice request with a generic apology, or adding IP documents to a performance issue, prolongs the process. The right order is: cause, root cause, corrective action, preventive action and supporting documents.
Frequently asked questions
What if the notice does not state the reason clearly?
Use the policy name, ASINs and dates to narrow down the likely cause. If uncertainty remains, an expert preliminary assessment can save time.
Do I always get a warning before a suspension?
Sometimes performance warnings come first, but not always. That is why monitoring account health regularly is important.
